Due toinclement weather expected later in the day,student transportation is cancelled for today (Wednesday, February 18,2026) for all of York Region.Schools remain open.
Please note that Ash Wednesday liturgies are cancelled. Schools will organize a “Beginning of Lent” liturgy at a later date,but ashes can only be distributed on Ash Wednesday. If you would like to receive ashes today, please consult your local parish..
As a result:
- Schools remain open
- For Parent(s)/Guardian(s) with children inElementary Schools:
- Please use theSafe Arrival System if your child(ren) is absent due toinclement weather. Students who are unable to attend due to buses being cancelled must still be reported absent using the Safe Arrival System.
- Hot Lunch programsat all Elementary Schoolsare cancelled.
- For Parent(s)/Guardian(s) with children inSecondary Schools:
- Cafeteria Services at all Secondary Schoolsare closed.
- For ALL Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
- Please exercise discretion in deciding whether to send your child to school today.
- Thisdecision to cancel school transportation service isregion-wide, meaning all school buses, vans, and taxis are not operating.
- Schools are open and parent(s)/guardian(s) can make alternate arrangements to transport their children to and from school.
- As school transportation is cancelled in the morning, it will not operate in the afternoon.
- Exams, tests, quizzes, excursions, charter trips, school programs, co-curricular activities, evening presentations, workshops, in-services, as well as parent meetings (e.g. Identification, Placement, and Review Committee Meetings, IPRCs) are cancelled for today, and will be rescheduled.
- Virtual learning will continue as usual
- Permits are cancelled for this evening unless by noon on theinclement weatherday, the Facilities Department determines that conditions are improving and permits can proceed.
- In-person ContinuingEducation classes will be cancelled due toInclement Weather; remote Continuing Education classes, including Adult ESL classes, will continue.
- Before and After-school Programs make every effort to remain open ininclement weather.However, the decision to open or to close early is up to the discretion of the Child Care Operator.
